The Starlings and the Fifth Witness

A Starling told four companions that the western orchard was safe.

“How do you know?” asked the first.

“The second told me,” she replied.

The second had heard it from the third, the third from the fourth, and the fourth from the first.

An Owl listened to the five witnesses and counted one rumor.
