The Fox and the Agreeable Pool

A Fox asked a still pool which creature in the wood was wisest.

“The Fox,” answered the pool.

He asked which was handsomest, most necessary, and most unjustly doubted. The pool remained remarkably well informed.

A Tortoise drinking downstream said, “It has learned nothing of you except the shape of your question.”
